Do you work with businesses as well as individuals?
Yes. Most of our work is for businesses: contractors, manufacturers, traders, retailers and exporters, from one-off orders to regular shipments. We also help individuals bring goods in or send them out for their own use.
Do you handle exports as well as imports?
Yes. We move goods into South Africa and out of it, in all six categories we work with. For exports we prepare the export declaration and documents, book the freight and arrange delivery to your buyer.
What is the difference between sea freight and air freight?
Sea freight costs less and suits heavy or bulky goods, but takes longer. Air freight is faster and better for smaller or urgent items, but costs more. We recommend the right option when we quote you.
How long does a shipment take?
It depends on where the goods are coming from or going to, the freight option and how quickly customs clears them. Sea freight usually takes weeks and air freight usually takes days. Your quote includes an estimated timeline, and we keep you updated along the way.
What is customs clearance and why does it take time?
It is the process of declaring your goods to SARS and paying the duties and VAT owed. Delays usually come from incomplete paperwork, inspections or missing permits. We handle the declaration so these problems get caught early.
What documents do I need to provide?
Usually the commercial invoice, the packing list, the bill of lading or air waybill, and your importer's or exporter's code. Vehicles and some other goods need permits as well. We tell you exactly what is needed before anything is booked.
Do I need an importer's code?
If you import for business or resale, yes, and exporters need an exporter's code. Individuals importing for personal use can usually declare without one, up to an annual limit. Ask us if you are unsure.
How is my quote worked out?
Your quote lists freight, duties, VAT, clearing and delivery separately, so you can see the full cost before you commit. Nothing is booked until you say yes.
Can I import a used vehicle into South Africa?
Only in limited cases. Permits go mainly to returning residents, immigrants with permanent residency and owners of vintage vehicles, and they are not issued for resale. Talk to us before you buy.
Can you deliver to my site or warehouse?
Yes. Once SARS releases your goods, we deliver anywhere in South Africa: to your business, warehouse, construction site or home. We can also hold goods in short-term storage until your site is ready.
